报告人简介: Professor Debbie S. Silvester is a Professor of Chemistry in the School of Molecular and Life Sciences at Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia. She completed her master’s degree in chemistry at the University of Bristol, UK, in 2005 and her PhD in Physical Chemistry at the University of Oxford, UK, in 2008. She has a background in electrochemistry and materials characterisation, and her research is focussed on the application of an exciting class of materials – room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) – as superior electrolytes in electrochemical reactions. She has developed a deep understanding of the fundamental behaviour of dissolved species in RTILs; this knowledge is used by researchers worldwide to understand electrochemical reactions, mechanisms, kinetics, and gas behaviour in RTILs and apply these to applications in electrochemical fields. Debbie has developed robust ionic liquid-based gelled gas sensor materials that have been commercialised by an international gas sensor company and are currently being field-tested in harsh environmental conditions inside mining vehicle tyres on Western Australian mine sites. She has published >130 peer-reviewed publications, 2 patents and 2 book chapters, with 7,610 citations, a H-index of 43 and i10-index of 108 (Google Scholar, 16 October 2026). In 2024, she was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for “service to chemistry”, highlighting the huge impact she has had in the electrochemistry field beyond her own research.
